We are in the process of putting together the 2010 event calendar which will feature a mix of competitive and fun events for open water swimmers, triathletes and recreational swimmers.

We will again be supporting key events in the south west and Dorset swimming calendar. If you have any suggestions for events you’d like us to consider, please email admin@edowsc.org.



British Gas ASA Open Water National Age Group and Youth Championships 2009

The British Gas ASA Open Water National Age Group and Youth Championships took place on 27 July 2009 at Rother Valley Country Park under a sky of sunshine and showers.

Spectators crowded the start line as the 15/16 years and 17-24 years competitors dived into the water to contest the 1750m and 2000m respectively in the first race of the day.

Monday 27 July 2009 - Rother Valley Country Park, near Sheffield

Entries are now being accepted. The competition date has been selected to allow competitors to compete in the Open Water Championships whilst they are at Ponds Forge, Sheffield for the British Gas ASA Age & Youth Championships and arrangements have been made to enter the Open Water event whilst at Ponds Forge for the pool based Championships.



British Gas Open Water team for FINA World Championships 2009

Olympic silver medallist Keri-Anne Payne is set to head a seven-strong British Gas Open Water team at the FINA World Championships in Rome.

The Open Water competition will take place from 19 – 22 July 2009 in the sea off Ostia. The Championships will feature a strong British Gas team who are coming off an incredibly successful LEN Open Water Cup event in Israel which saw the British Gas team take four of the six medals on offer.



‘Vibes & Scribes’ Lee Swim 2009

The Lee Swim is one of the top open water swimming events in Ireland and everyone is welcome. The Lee River course runs through the centre of Cork to maximise crowds – a great family event!

In 2009 the Lee Swim Organising Committee is planning for 400 swimmers! Most of the swimmers compete for age group prizes (under 20, 20-24, 25-29….up to 80-84) or to raise money for local charities and a good number just swim for the enjoyment of the day and the cheers of family and friends.



European Open Water Swimming Cup 2009 - Eilat

Olympic silver medallist Keri-Anne Payne led the British Gas Open Water squad to victories in both the women’s and men’s 10km race at the LEN Open Water Cup in Israel.

The men’s race saw British Gas team member Richard Charlesworth swim to victory as he claimed the number one spot 0.2s ahead of Brian Ryckeman (Belgium), who finished in seventh place at the Beijing Olympic in the same event, and Michael Dmitriev (Israel). The top four men finished within 1.05s of one another.
