Mount Stuart on the Isle of Bute to host 500 of the world’s leading open water swimming athletes and practitioners for a two day conference in September 2014 which will include a series of talks from internationally recognised speakers, a 2k open water swim in St Ninian’s Bay, a hall of fame induction ceremony and an awards lunch.
The Big Blue Swim organise open water swimming trips around the beautiful Greek island of Lefkada. Their 7 day long programme includes accommodation and coached / guided swims, two every day, either island to island or coastal swims.
Just a reminder that Bob Diggles of Radio Solent will be meeting members of our Club for an interview and a swim at Bournemouth on Wednesday 19 March 2013. Bob Diggles will be doing a sort of triathlon in support of the national Sport Relief event.
Our President Ali Budynkiewicz and Chairman Bob Holman will be interviewed and will swim with Bob Diggles. It would be really good to have more members on the beach and/or in the water. Do come and join us.
We are delighted to learn that lifeguard Lara Moore was commended with a special award by RLSS Poole Lifeguard at their Annual Awards evening held during Februay 2014, in recognition of her decision making and prompt actions on 16 July 2013, Lara prevented a serious incident affecting three members of the public from developing into a major incident requiring the support of other emergency services.
Sam Woodward of Swim Bournemouth will be running a block of pool sessions out of the Littledown Centre over the winter period aimed as Masters, Triathletes and Open water swimmers.
Sam will be running sessions on Tuesday and Thursday mornings (6am to 7am) from January through to Easter.
Our annual end of season swim and lunch took place on Sunday 3 November 2013 with 11 swimmers braving the cooling waters at Shore Road for an excellent swim to Sandbanks and back.
Three brave souls (Chris, Hannah and Mark) swam non-wetsuit which was most impressive and just maybe something to do with a certain channel relay attempt next year!
We then moved on to the magnificent Harbour View restaurant at the RLNI headquarters for our lunch.
Our fourth annual mystery tour along the Dorset coast took place on 18 August 2013, taking in some of our favorite swimming spots. Thanks to Bob Holman for organising another brilliant day, surely worth all the pain. As Wallace and Grommit would say, “A grand day out, lad”.

Each year, Poole Sports Council, in conjunction with Borough of Poole, host an awards evening to celebrate sporting success and achievement by both individuals and clubs within the Borough of Poole. This year’s presentations of Certificates of Commendation will take place on Wednesday, 25 September.
Nomination forms follow for both Certificates of Commendation and the Freddie Rowe Sports Cup*, together with information sheets on who can be nominated, and a list of past recipients of the Freddie Rowe award.
EDOWSC committee nominated Membership Secretary Gerry Griffin to be the Dorset County ASA President for 2013/14 (June 2013 to May 2014).
The role provides an opportunity for clear leadership in the development and promotion of aquatic sport in Dorset.
