2010 Solent Swim

The Solent Swim is a challenging open water swim. The distance is approx 2.5 to 3 miles depending on the tide / wind.There are kayaks and RIBs supporting the swimmers and also the Solent Coastguard on one of the RIBS.

Last year the swim went from Hampstead ledge on the Isle of Wight to a small beach at the end of Tanners Lane, in Lymington. They took 45 swimmers across, with around 6 swimmers not completing the swim. This year’s event is supported by Austin Fraser and organised by a charity (Champion Behaviours) and Race New Forest.

Rebecca Adlington to take part in World Swim Against Malaria 2010

Swimming champion and Speedo sponsored athlete, Rebecca Adlington, has become the next elite swimmer to register for this year’s World Swim Against Malaria.

Rebecca Adlington – 2x Olympic Champion, will take to the water on 25 June 2010 as part of the world’s largest participatory swim event. Organised by the Against Malaria Foundation (AMF), the swim aims to attract up to a million participants, with every penny raised spent on the purchase and distribution of protective nets which prevent the spread of one of the world’s most deadly diseases in Africa and other affected regions.

The Great Pier 3km Swim 2010

Saturday 24 July 2010 between Southend and Thorpe Bay in Essex.

There are two separate races so that both novice and more experienced Open Water swimmers can enjoy the challenge of the 3k race. It is open to both ASA members and non-ASA members. The event is also looking to raise much needed funds for Haven Hospices.

Castle to Castle Swim 2010

EastEnders star Steve McFadden swam one mile for charity across the tidal mouth of the River Fal from Pendennis Point to St Mawes to raise money for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

The RNLI is a charity dedicated to saving lives at sea by providing a 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service around UK coasts.

Swimmers had to raise £50 each in sponsorship.

Sea Swim South Devon

Sunday, 12 September 2010 at 2pm – start at Teignmouth Beach

Rowcroft Hospice is appealing for people to sign-up for Sea Swim South Devon and the charity hopes 200 swimmers will take part.

Laura Carus, events fundraiser, said: “We hope the Sea Swim will appeal to those with an adventurous side; whether you are an experienced athlete or a novice swimmer. This event is certainly no walk in the park but we’ve got an information pack, for those that sign up, which is full of top swimming and training tips from Triathlon Coach of Year, Rob Moore.”

Mencap Mile Swim

Cost: £25

This 1 mile open water charity swim in aid of Mencap will take place in Dorney lake, renowed for its clear, clean and warm waters. The 2km long lake is located less then 2 miles from the M4, just outside the M25 and is the venue for the 2012 Olympic Rowing events.

Hospiscare One-Mile Swim 2010

Open to novices and experienced swimmers, the southwest’s only open-water lake-based swim. Registration closes Monday 6 September. Click to register before 14 June for the early rate of £25!

Challenge yourself, swim for the fun of it, to say you did it, to beat your time and to raise funds for the local hospice charity. There’s an amazing atmosphere and loads of support, so why not rise to the challenge this September and spend a couple of days in Devon.
