British team ready for 12th LEN European Masters Swimming Championships 2009

Britain will be represented by 216 competitors in the swimming programme. They will be among the 4,049 swimmers from 34 LEN member nations taking part, making the Championships the biggest event ever organised in European swimming history.

Andrew Huckle (50/54yrs Age Group) will go into the open water swimming events in Cadiz’s inner harbour with confidence after taking the ASA National Masters title last month. He is among a squad of 31 Men and 28 Women open water swimmers.

European Open Water Swimming Cup 2009 Round Up

Similar to 2008, the overall standings of the European Open Water Swimming Cup were mainly a German affair. At the final event in Marmaris-Mugla on the Turkish Riviera, Germany’s Christian Reichert successfully defended his men’s title.

With a total time of 2:20:35,29 Marta Recio won the last event ahead of Gina Mohr (2:20:41,99), who failed to achieve first place in any of the five European Cup legs prior to the final in Turkey.

European Open Water Swimming Cup 2009 – Eilat

Olympic silver medallist Keri-Anne Payne led the British Gas Open Water squad to victories in both the women’s and men’s 10km race at the LEN Open Water Cup in Israel.

The men’s race saw British Gas team member Richard Charlesworth swim to victory as he claimed the number one spot 0.2s ahead of Brian Ryckeman (Belgium), who finished in seventh place at the Beijing Olympic in the same event, and Michael Dmitriev (Israel). The top four men finished within 1.05s of one another.

2009 LEN Open Water Cup – Eilat

Britain’s open water swimmers are set to take on some of Europe’s best when they compete in the first leg of the Open Water LEN Cup in Eilat, Israel on 30 May 2009.

The British Gas team consisting of 13 athletes, includes Olympic silver medallist Keri-Anne Payne (pictured) and Daniel Fogg, 2008 LEN Cup silver medallist, as well as up-and-coming athletes Richard Charlesworth and Charlotte Wooliscroft who will be looking for a good result in their first major competition of the season.
