West Midland Swimming is running an Open Water Officials course on Saturday 25 June 2011 from 10am - 3pm at Coventry Sports Centre.

The course is open to anyone who would like to learn about officiating at open water events. You do not have to have any qualifications in pool officiating to qualify as an open water official.

Open water swimming is becoming increasingly popular. And like any other aquatics discipline it needs officials to insure events run smoothly.

Would you like to hone your skills in the increasingly popular discipline of open water swimming? Do you enjoy distance freestyle events in the pool? Swimmers aged 12 to 22 years have until 21 May 2011 to apply to join the West’s distance swimmers in an Introduction to Open Water Swimming and Sea Training 2011 run by ASA SW region in Weymouth (residential course from 3 to 5 June 2011)

ASA South East Region will be running a course for new officials on Saturday 23 July 2011 at Eastbourne. This will be in the form of a seminar in the morning followed by a practical session at the Eastbourne 5Km event in the afternoon.

Les Debenham is keen to ensure the sport of open water swimming has sufficient officials to satisfy the tremendous enthusiasm and increase in events generated by London 2012 and British success in the Beijing Olympics 2008.

Applications are invited from Licensed Open Water Officials to officiate at the British Gas ASA Open Water National Age Group & Youth Championships 2011 (incorporating the Club Team Competition), 3km Open Water and Mass Participation events

A valued British volunteer well known in the open water swimming community, Robert Outtram, has been appointed to the International Paralympic Committee’s (IPC) Swimming Technical Committee.

Outtram has been chosen as Head of Technical Control after his countless number of years volunteering within the sport.
