Arundel Open Air Pool
![]() |
| My comment: We meet at the Purbeck Sports Centre with Sally again volunteering to do the driving. The weather is absolutely foul and we drive to Arundel in pouring driving rain. Make good progress until we get to Chichester where the traffic grinds to a halt because of a motor racing event at Goodwood. A clever detour enables us to get to the pool spot on 11am to be greeted by the pool manager David Batchelor who had opened the pool an hour early especially for us. David Wood, a pool trustee and Debbie Kennedy who wrote the Arundel Diary, also greeted us. The pool was beautifully tiled and well maintained in a wonderful setting with Arundel Castle as a backdrop. It also had a learner pool and an enclosed stepped end. Completed our mile in falling rain whilst the girls talked to David and Debbie. We were greeted with hot chocolate and coffee afterwards and the promise of much publicity in the Sussex press and perhaps some sponsorship from the trust. David had taken a lot of photographs and promised to send me a CD. Despite the weather, this has to be one of our best swims with an overwhelmingly friendly welcome. |
