| My comment: The signs were not good, as we had been warned ahead that the old lido had been closed down and a new one had been built within a new leisure complex to serve local need. We queued up at reception with the world and his wife in attendance. There were indoor pools, flumes, Jacuzzis, squash courts etc. on offer. The lady at the desk didn’t know how long the freeform outdoor pool was, but would call a manager. Meanwhile, Sally and I managed to find one who immediately offered us free passage to the outdoor pool. Finding the loo and negotiating the lockers were all accomplished with panache and we eventually emerged into the cool damp afternoon air. The pool itself was so freeform, it was impossible to measure out a length. So as with Aldershot we decided to swim for 30 minutes up and down the length and around the children and families who were using the facility. It was fortuitous that the weather was so bad as I am sure we would have had real problems getting any sort of swim on a good day. This was a totally new experience. It was not our usual lido experience and it was almost surprising that this lido had been listed in Liquid Assets. However, as with Saltdean, we take with it the kindness and generosity of the staff. |
