Cirencester Open Air Pool

| My comment: We spent a very comfortable night in Swindon with Sally’s brother Brian and sister in law Maggie enjoying a lovely curry dinner. After a half hour drive, Sally dropped us off for a short walk by the stream running pass the pool. Again, this was a pool with impressive surroundings having a castle in the background. It was also a very old pool built in 1870 and a twin with the Lydney Pool which came much later in 1920. The young pool superintendent was very welcoming having remembered my telephone call a few weeks before. We were invited in and shown the changing room at the shallow end of the pool. We started our 60 length swim in drizzling rain accompanied by 2 other swimmers including a triathlete who Dave shared experiences with after. Dave chose to swim at one side of the pool and me in the middle. After a few lengths, I became aware that there was a definite cold patch halfway down the pool and after our swim, compared notes with Dave who found it right at the end. When talking to the pool staff later we learnt that the pump was not working and the pool was being fed by well water directly into Dave’s end and somehow circulating into the middle. Well at least it might have temporarily slowed him down a bit. This was another pool run by a trust and it showed in the pride of its staff. |
