Great community run pool with wonderful fundraising ideas

My comment:
We made our way to Chipping Norton choosing to avoid the main road through Bourton on the Water and Stow on the Wold because of flooding along the A429. We would have to adjust our plans later but for now the Chipping Norton Pool was open. We were greeted by Jane the lifeguard and welcomed into the pool. This was the one that Jeremy Clarkson had driven a car into. It’s amazing what some people will do to get themselves noticed! Claire Jarvis who was the joint chairman of the pool and who I had spoken to earlier over the telephone shortly joined us. What super people: we were given a Chippy Pool mug (the last of the line) and made to feel so welcome. A lane had been set especially for us and we were to join the other old folk in their session sponsored by McCarthy & Stone. This is a real community run pool and the fairly large trading loss is all made up by very imaginative fund raising. Claire explained the many projects they had to maintain interest in the town’s liquid asset including an Irish weekend where everyone was encouraged to drink and donate more than they should. We loved this pool for the pure exuberance and enthusiasm of the people running it!
