Charlton Lido

Opened on 6 May 1939, the last to be built by the London County Council (LCC). The main pool is 165 ft long and 66 ft wide, with the depth varying from 2ft 6ins to 9ft. There is also a 66 x 20 ft children's pool.

My comment:
After a good breakfast, we made our way to Charlton Lido on our way to swim the three Kent open-air pools. This lido was set in a lovely park and Diana was able to sit, read and admire the floor beds whilst Sally walked Bella. Meanwhile, we walked the complete circumference before finding a small entrance door, which was open. Once inside, we discovered that the pool was not open to the public until 11am and we were nearly an hour early. We chatted to the lovely lady pool supervisor and we discovered that the club had just finished its session and there were a number of members still in the changing rooms and on the pool surrounds. Yes, she would provide a lifesaver just for us and we could use the pool straight away! We introduced ourselves to a number of swimmers including Doug Mindy who swam the channel in 1982 and a lovely Scot called Jimmy. This was a freshwater unheated pool and again, an easily counted 32 lengths which we swam in the morning sunshine. A good swim
