Brockwell Park Lido

This Grade II lido was designed by H A Rowbotham and T L Smithson, architects in the LCC Parks Department. It formed an identical pair with the pool in Victoria Park, Hackney opened the previous year (now demolished). It replaced an older bathing pond on the other side of the park. The Beach café is separate

My comment:
We finally arrive at Brixton after several changes on the tube. We were told by the newspaper vendor at the station that it was a 20 minute walk to the pool so decided to catch the bus using our existing train ticket. When we arrived, we were greeted by the friendly East European reception staff. This was a lovely lido with that 1930’s feel to it though the reception area was stylistically modern. The shallow end was roped off and we swam 36 lengths to be sure that we completed our mile. The pool was relatively quiet at that time of day (late afternoon) but I still managed to bump into one young lad who was busy snorkelling. This was a good way to bring up the halfway mark and complete our day.
